Dr. Kristin Cavanah Mirda, DMD was born and raised in North Palm Beach, Florida where she grew up in an environment that inspired and paved a way to her career in pediatrics. Her love for kids stems from many years of experience as a swimming instructor, where she developed the confidence to earn the trust and respect of any child regardless of personality type. Her energy and loving personality makes dental visits extremely fun and entertaining for children.
After swimming for the University of Richmond and earning BS degrees in Biology and Communication, Dr. Kristin moved back to sweet home Florida to complete her doctorate of dental medicine at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale. While at Nova, Dr. Kristin participated in various missions, including trips to India and Jamaica where she provided dental support to underprivileged communities. Dr. Kristin would fulfill her dream by attending University of Florida’s Pediatric Dentistry residency. During residency, she won the 2008 AAPD Healthy Smiles Healthy Children National Research Award. Today, Dr. Kristin is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD). She is a member of the American Dental Association (ADA), Florida Dental Association (FDA), American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), Florida Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (FAPD), Central Florida District Dental Association (CFDDA), and the Brevard County Dental Society.
Dr. Kristin lives in Indialantic with her husband, Mike, and their beautiful kids, Sadie, Piper, Jensen, and Briggs. Dr. Kristin loves the beach, surfing, looking for shells, running, and riding bikes. You’ll hear about Dr. Kristin in the community as she regularly visits Brevard County schools to teach children about oral hygiene.
Idaigna M. Alvarez, DMD, MS graduated from the University of Puerto Rico Dental School in 1991. After graduating from Dental School she completed her Pediatric/Orthodontics residency at The Children’s Hospital of Alabama at Birmingham, where she was valedictorian and served as Chief Resident. She completed a Fellowship in cerebral palsy patient care and was involved in the care of medically compromised and handicapped children. Her program at the University of Alabama included orthodontics and the study of growth and development patterns in children. She received a Masters in Clinical Dentistry in 1994 and moved to Titusville.
Dr. Alvarez has been involved in children’s dental care in Brevard County since 1995. She joined Sunshine Smiles in 2013 and is excited to share her knowledge and passion in the dental care of children. She believes that any child can love coming to the Dentist if he or she is treated with kindness and compassion and lots of love. Her goal is to help the child develop good dental habits that will last throughout their lifetime, making their teeth stronger and healthier.
Today, Dr. Alvarez is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD). She is a member of the American Dental Association (ADA), Florida Dental Association (FDA), American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), Florida Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (FAPD), Central Florida District Dental Association (CFDDA), and the Brevard County Dental Society. She regularly volunteers at Brevard Children Services doing dental screenings for children in the Head Start program.
Dr. Alvarez moved to Brevard County with her husband, Dr. Denis Perez, an Ob/Gyn in Titusville. She has two beautiful children, Idanís and Gabriel. On her free time, Dr. Alvarez attends her children’s sports events. She loves cooking, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.
